Week 2

After meeting with my supervisor, I learnt the following:
After meeting with my supervisor, I learnt the following:
-The need to complete the risk assessment before starting anything with the project.
-No ethical approval is required as the project will not deal with people or animals.
-The project objectives should be specific, as mine were general.
-The need to complete the project plan as soon as possible.
As a start, the risk assessment was completed. Water and soldering were the major risks for the project, but under the appropriate control, they can be avoided.

The next task for me is to set specific objectives for the project. The system should be able to change the water regularly, dispense food, maintain the optimal water quality, and indicate important values using IoT. To set specific objectives, I should answer the following questions:
-What type of fish will the system be suitable for?
-How often should the water be changed?
-What percentage of the water will be changed? 100?!
-How often does the system need to dispense food?
-What is a good water quality for a fish? What does it actually mean?
-To what degree will the water quality be maintained?
-How will IoT be used?
Neon tetra, Guppy, and Goldfish are the most common and top selling types of fish in the UK. This project will adjust the system based on these types of fish.
Neon tetra:
-Change 10% of water per week.
- Dispense food once every 12 hours.
-PH between 6.8 and 7.8.
-Temperature between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius.
Guppy:
-Change 10% of water per week.
- Dispense food once every 12 hours.
-PH between 6.8 and 7.8.
-Temperature between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius.
Goldfish:
-Change 10% of water per week.
- Dispense food once every 12 hours.
-PH between 7.0 and 8.4.
-Temperature between 15.5 and 22 degrees Celsius.
After setting the important values for each type of fish, it is important to state how the IoT will work. IoT will be used to show the PH level and temperature to the user's mobile phone. The user will also use IoT to set the system to a specific type of fish.
Now I can write SMART objectives for my project.
4/10/2025
To organise the development process, I created a project timeline using a Gantt chart. The chart divides the project into several work packages, including temperature control, pH monitoring, automated feeding, water change system, and the IoT dashboard. This timeline will help me keep track of my progress.
